How to Install Trailer Jockey Wheels to Your Trailer?
Tools You’ll Need:
Jockey wheel (with clamp or bracket)
Wrench or socket set
Drill (if no mounting holes are pre-drilled)
Bolts and nuts (usually included with the clamp)
Tape measure
Marker or pencil
Choose the Mounting Position
Select a spot near the trailer's drawbar (usually close to the hitch) that allows the jockey wheel to fully retract and rotate without obstruction.
Mark the Drill Holes (if needed)
If your drawbar doesn’t have pre-drilled holes, use the jockey wheel clamp or bracket as a template. Mark where you’ll need to drill.
Drill the Holes (if required)
Use a drill bit suitable for metal. Drill carefully and wear safety goggles.
Attach the Clamp or Bracket
Align the clamp with the holes. Insert the bolts through and secure with nuts on the opposite side. Tighten firmly with your wrench or socket.
Insert the Jockey Wheel
Slide the jockey wheel post into the clamp. Adjust the height to your preference, then tighten the clamp handle or bolts to lock it in place.
Test It
Crank the handle to raise and lower the trailer front. Spin or pivot the wheel to make sure it rotates freely and locks securely.
Make sure the jockey wheel is rated for the weight of your trailer.
Check regularly that the bolts and clamps remain tight.
Always fully retract the jockey wheel before towing.
